Obsessive Inscriptions II | exhibition design work | Amman | Jordan | 2018
text
Obsessive Inscriptions II is a second collection of fabric-like drawings that veer between constrains of idealized geometrical orders and the beauty of the subtle gestures of imperfection as they emerge from the manual process. Conceived with precise architectural drafting pens and filled with handwritten words and phrases, the drawings are based on consistent repetitions within a prescribed outline. The manual inscriptions’ process allows for unpredictable organic deviations thus granting the paper-space of these drawings their soft textile edge. A matt vinyl layer emulating the pattern of one of the drawings was originally envisioned to be projected and imprinted on the floor and the walls of the gallery space as an immersive gesture.
The drawings were mounted in 2018 at Obsessions, a double feature exhibition at Zara Gallery, Grand Hyatt Amman Hotel. A selection of the drawings was mounted again in 2019 at The Collective and Nahnu group exhibitions that took place, respectively, at Zara Gallery and JODAR Artistry.
